Successful collaborations:

Making a difference in transitions
The world is becoming increasingly connected with the growth of transportation, both of people and goods. However, this presents significant sustainability challenges. Different modes of transport, such as aviation, maritime and land transport, increasingly influence each other, so the transition challenges within the sector are often similar.
To be successful in this dynamic environment, new propositions, products, operating models, technologies and innovations are essential. With three services, we create successful sustainable growth.
Strategy

Technology scouting: global innovations for local solutions
With our global network, we bring relevant technologies and solutions to your organization, accelerate implementation and contribute to a sustainable future.

Schiphol Airport faces significant baggage handling challenges. For example, airline baggage handlers regularly experience physical strain and injury from lifting heavy luggage. The Netherlands Labor Inspectorate is more strictly enforcing labor compliance to protect baggage workers. In addition, the labor market is facing unprecedented personnel shortages, and the capacity of the baggage system is reaching its limits due to the emergence of larger aircraft and fleet renewal.
Solving global baggage problems at Schiphol Airport
To ensure and accelerate the pace of needed innovation and implementation, we have established a collaborative program for airports worldwide called BOOST. We are currently in talks with 15 airports and airlines to join forces within this baggage automation coalition.
"Our ultimate goal is to reduce physical strain and improve working conditions for baggage employees. With BOOST, we can work faster and together to find smart solutions to this. Information and insights are shared structurally with the other core partners so that everyone can benefit from multiple tests without having to run them independently."
Dennis van Kleef - Program Lead Baggage, Royal Schiphol Group

To become the world’s most sustainable and high-quality airport group, Schiphol is working towards the following goals: increasing the quality of work, service, network and living environment. To achieve these ambitions, Schiphol Group is investing significantly in innovation. Schiphol has chosen nlmtd and TNW as their long-term innovation partners.
Establishing an innovation ecosystem
Our specialists support by determining the optimal way to implement and manage innovation within the organization. From the role of “orchestrator,” we engage a network of relevant parties, co-create Schiphol’s innovation goals, and maintain a balance between people, planet and profit.
"Innovation is necessary to achieve our ambitions. For example, we foresee that daily operations on the Schiphol apron will have changed significantly by 2050. Activities on the ground, such as baggage transport, passenger transport and aircraft towing, will not only be clean, but also smart and autonomous. We are well on our way in this area with TNW (The Next Web) and nlmtd, and look forward to the future."
