Femke de Jager has joined nlmtd. With the arrival of this experienced sector specialist, the Amsterdam-based agency strengthens its position in the manufacturing industry, which plays a crucial role in the transition to a sustainable society.

De Jager describes herself as an “industry realist.” She highlights the crucial role industry plays in society, while also recognizing the need to make it healthier and therefore more sustainable.

To help drive this transition, De Jager brings more than 30 years of industry experience. She has held commercial and leadership roles in asset management and innovation at companies including DSM and Stork.
Over the past two and a half years, she has served as innovation director at the renowned soil research company Fugro. “With my team of 300 engineers and scientists, we worked on the latest techniques to make geotechnical and geophysical investigations better, faster, safer, and lower in carbon footprint, particularly for maritime and offshore applications,” she says.

De Jager also has extensive experience in consulting. She began her career at PwC, where she worked as a strategy consultant on numerous assignments in the manufacturing industry. At Accenture, she served as managing director, leading the European intelligent asset management practice.

“During this period, the ‘industry 4.0’ agenda truly took shape,” she reflects. “Suddenly, there were far more opportunities to capture data from systems and processes and use it for optimization.”

De Jager and her team supported capital-intensive companies across engineering, manufacturing, asset management, and safety. Initially, their focus was on the chemicals, oil, gas, and metals sectors. Later, they expanded into life sciences, water, infrastructure, pharmaceuticals, aerospace, FMCG, and defense.

A key enabler of the energy transition

At nlmtd, De Jager will focus on the manufacturing industry in the broadest sense. It is a sector where the agency still sees significant potential to advance its mission of accelerating the transition to a sustainable future.

“We are excited about Femke’s decision to join nlmtd,” says co-founder Pieter Paul van Oerle. “The energy transition is one of our key focus areas. We already carry out important work for grid operators, but Femke’s background in the process industry is a valuable addition, as we see that industry is a key enabler of the energy transition.”

He also sees a role for De Jager within the defense sector, where nlmtd is helping to accelerate the realization of the innovation agenda. “Femke’s knowledge of capital-intensive industries is highly valuable in this regard. For example, we can work together to support parties in the maritime sector that want to use their existing capabilities to diversify into defense.”

Force for good

With her first few weeks now behind her, De Jager looks back on a successful start. “At nlmtd, I’ve found like-minded, entrepreneurial consultants who want to act as a force for good.”

“We aim to make an impact through meaningful assignments,” she explains. “I meet professional colleagues with extensive experience from major consulting firms, which makes it great to exchange ideas and collaborate on projects. On top of that, I experience a pleasant, energetic, and creative work environment that we truly enjoy sharing with our clients.”
