In this article, we explore what UAF can do for refugees like our esteemed colleague Kerim and how nlmtd is creating social impact.

At nlmtd, it’s about doing business together and making a real impact. Social change starts with the people, and inclusiveness is fundamental to the future we are building. As a B Corp-certified consulting firm, we believe that everyone deserves equal opportunities to participate and make a difference.

Our colleague Kerim concurs with the value of the UAF foundation. In 2020, he arrived in the Netherlands as a refugee. With motivation and perseverance, he learned the language, completed a master’s degree, and received professional guidance from UAF. That guidance was critical to his development and enabled him to integrate fully. Since May 2024, Kerim has been a consultant at nlmtd. He works on transitions with impact, bringing his knowledge, background, and unique perspective to our projects.

Since February 2025, he has been committed to serving as the interim Coordinator of the UAF Academy, the online learning platform for highly educated refugees. This is for him a special role, or as he puts it himself:

I am now able to make an immediate impact for people who are in a situation similar to where I once was.

Kerim sees his personal experience as his driving force to make a difference. It is precisely that strength that drives his work at both UAF and nlmtd, making it valuable. The combination of both roles demonstrates how personal commitment, entrepreneurship, and social impact can reinforce one another.

To deepen this connection, in September, he joined nlmtd and started a laptop collection campaign. We collected used laptops within our company, which will be distributed to refugee students through UAF. This is how we increase their access to education and language classes, and bring to life our shared mission: inclusion and equal opportunity for all.

The partnership between nlmtd and UAF shows how social impact and entrepreneurship support each other. It’s more than just a project: it’s a shared responsibility to create opportunities and promote progress for people in need.
