The shift to a CO₂-free economy requires targeted tools that are practical and easy to use. The CO₂-Performance Ladder is such a proven tool, and through the nlmtd fund, we are now backing the next phase of its market development.
What is the CO₂-Performanceladder?
The CO₂-Performanceladder helps organizations measure, reduce, and transparently report their CO₂ emissions, both within their own organization and across the supply chain. In addition, the Ladder functions as a procurement tool: governments and other clients can encourage contractors to achieve higher performance levels by rewarding them in tenders, for example, through a fictitious discount. This enables companies, such as those in earthworks, hydraulic engineering, and road construction, to complete the business case for investing in more sustainable materials and practices. The combination of a clear management system and concrete market pressure makes the Ladder a practical, scalable tool for sustainable contracting.
What does nlmtd help with?
With support from the nlmtd fund, our entrepreneur, Christian, will work over the coming period to further the Ladder’s market development. On the one hand, this will be done by strengthening adoption within existing governments through an active Community of Practice with ministries, water boards, and municipalities. On the other hand, he will investigate how the Ladder can be applied in new sectors where socially responsible procurement and purchasing (CSRI) can contribute to structural CO₂ reduction.
Within nlmtd, we support this movement toward a zero-emissions economy with our sustainability services, from sharpening strategy and ambition to operationalizing transitions across organizations and supply chains. We also help organizations calculate their impact (GHG, LCA, MFA), set their vision and goals, and, of course, deploy the CO₂-Performanceladder.
